Prof. Ashraf Armia is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specializing in Cataract, Cornea, Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma, and Anterior Segment Reconstruction. He is the Founder and Medical Director of Ashraf Armia Eye Clinic in Cairo, Egypt.He holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS Glasgow), Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS, USA), and Fellowship of the World College of Refractive Surgery (FWCRS).Prof. Armia serves as Board Member of the Council of the Egyptian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (EgSCRS) and is Co-Founder of the World College of Refractive Surgery & Visual Science (WCRS-VS), USA. He is also the Founder and Global Coordinator of the Global Keratoconus School (GKS).Internationally, he is a Scientific Committee and Advisory Board Member of the Société Française d’Échographie et d’Imagerie Oculaire (SFEIO), Paris, France; Vice President of the Middle East Ophthalmology Meeting Academy (MEOM), Dubai, UAE; and General Secretary of MEOM Egypt Ophthalmology Society, Cairo, Egypt. He also serves as International Board Member of the Moroccan Society of Ocular Imagery and Artificial Intelligence (SMIO.AO). Prof. Armia is a shareholder of Watany Eye Hospitals (WEH) and Watany Research and Development Centre (WRDC), Cairo, Egypt. He is Honorary President of the NexGen Ophthalmic Surgeon Society (NEGOOS), Tunisia, and Founder of AOTOA (Armia’s Ophthalmology Training Observer-Ship Academy), Cairo, Egypt.Academically, Prof. Armia is Co-Editor of the Springer textbook “Keratoconus, Current and Future State-of-the-Art” published in November 2022. He is an Editorial Board Member of ISRS Multimedia Library (USA), Minerva Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmology Cases and Hypotheses. He also serves as reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, Journal of Biophotonics, BMC Ophthalmology, Medicina, and others. Prof. Armia was selected as “Surgeon of the Month” worldwide by the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), part of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Since 2013, he has been an international lecturer, instructor, and workshop organizer at major global ophthalmology meetings including ASCRS, ESCRS, AAO, and AECOS.
Dr. Otman Sandali is a former practitioner at the National Eye Hospital of Quinze-Vingts in Paris, as well as in a private practice in Bourges, France. He holds a specialty degree in ophthalmology obtained in Paris and is also certified by the European Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Sandali is the author of over fifty peer-reviewed scientific publications in ophthalmology. He is particularly well known for establishing the World Classification of Keratoconus based on OCT, published in Ophthalmology in 2013. He is an active peer reviewer for several high-impact journals, including Ophthalmology, Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, Current Eye Research, Journal of Medical Case Reports, Clinical Ophthalmology, Acta Ophthalmologica, and the European Journal of Ophthalmology. Dr. Sandali serves on the Editorial Board for the ophthalmology section of the Journal of Clinical Medicine and has been a Guest Editor for both Frontiers in Medicine and the Journal of Clinical Medicine. He is also a founding board member of the Moroccan Society of Ocular Imaging and Artificial Intelligence (SMIO-IA), where he actively contributes to organizing the annual scientific congress, the University Diploma in Ocular Imaging, and hands-on training workshops.
Dr. Rachid Tahiri is an ophthalmologist trained at the Faculty of Medicine of Paris VII, with over ten years as Intern and Practitioner at the Quinze-Vingts National Eye Hospital in Paris. He holds a medical license from the Medical Council of Canada, is certified by the European Board of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the College of the National Academy of Surgery in France. Dr. Tahiri has authored over fifty peer-reviewed publications, including the world’s first description of en face anterior segment OCT in Ocular Surface. He is Associate Editor for the Journal Français d’Ophtalmologie (JFO) and JFO Open Ophthalmology (JFOP), and has served as Guest Editor for Frontiers in Medicine and the Journal of Clinical Medicine. He has reviewed articles for more than twenty indexed journals.Since 2018, he has co-organized the Webinars of Practical Ophthalmology (WOP), now followed by more than 2,400 registered participants.He holds several scientific and institutional roles, including expert for the French Haute Autorité de Santé in national diabetes guidelines, expert jury member for BPI France since 2023. He also serves on the Scientific Committees of the ARMD Congress, the VuExplorer Institute, the French Society of Ocular Imaging and Ultrasound (SFEIO), and the AI Committee of the Middle East Ophthalmology Meeting (MEOM) in Dubai.Internationally, Dr. Tahiri represents the French Retina Society in Morocco and is the Moroccan Ambassador for the International MaculArt Congress.In Morocco, he co-founded the Moroccan Society of Ocular Imaging and Artificial Intelligence (SMIO-IA), co-organizes its annual congress and workshops, contributes to the University Diploma in Ocular Imaging at the International University of Rabat, serves as Deputy Secretary General of the Moroccan Society of Vitreoretinal Diseases, and is Associate Editor of the Moroccan Journal of Ophthalmology (JMO).
