Die Koexistenz unterschiedlicher visueller Kulturen ist Teil unseres täglichen Lebens und ein fester Bestandteil unserer Kommunikationssysteme. Aber wie können wir äquivalente Systeme für die interkulturelle Kommunikation schaffen, die die Vielfalt der Schriftsysteme berücksichtigen? In "Visual Coexistence" leitet der Grafikdesigner Ruedi Baur ein Forschungsteam, das sich mit der Analyse visueller Grafiken aus verschiedenen Kulturen mit Schwerpunkt auf chinesischen und lateinischen Schriftsystemen beschäftigt, um deren spezifische Darstellungsprinzipien und die Art und Weise ihrer visuellen Kommunikation zu identifizieren. Mithilfe dieser interdisziplinären, interkulturellen Untersuchungen präsentieren die Gestalter geeignete und differenzierte Lösungen für die globale Kommunikation. Durch die Auseinandersetzung mit den Problemen und Möglichkeiten der mehrsprachigen Typografie und visuellen Repräsentation setzt sich "Visual Coexistence" ein für ein Design, das als Werkzeug eines globalen Verständnisses dient.

RUEDI BAUR examines concrete design ques- tions in social contexts, fundamentally oriented toward the development of an accountable design approach. He specializes in the design of public spaces and has developed internationally recog- nized projects with Intégral Ruedi Baur et Asso- ciés. He is a professor at the School of Art and Design, HEAD – Genève, the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (ENSAD) and the University Strasbourg.
ULRIKE FELSING studied visual communication at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. Together with Ruedi Baur, she directed the project “Researching design methods in the area of transcultural visual communication,” which was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (2010– 2015). Felsing has been a lecturer at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) since 2010.
