Zwischen 1966 und 1989 haben Inken (geboren 1942) und Hinrich Baller (1936–2025) gemeinsam 25 Bauten in West-Berlin und ein Wohnhaus in der Schweiz geplant und realisiert. Obwohl die meisten ihrer Gebäude im engen Rahmen des sozialen Wohnungsbaus entstanden sind, bieten sie immer mehr als den Standard: Filigranität, Helligkeit, grosse Balkone, Terrassen und Gärten, gute Be-lichtung dank gläserner Innenwände, grosszügige Wohnungsgrundrisse, komplexe Raumzusammenhänge über mehrere Etagen. Mit ihren unkonventionellen Wohnhäusern und öffentlichen Gebäuden schufen die Ballers Situationen, die nach wie vor als Vorbilder für qualitativen und bezahlbaren Wohnraum und spannende Stadträume stehen.
Diese umfassende englischsprachige Werkübersicht, erstmals 2022 als Broschur im Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König erschienen und schnell wieder vergriffen, erscheint nun in einer korrigierten Neuausgabe. Sie bietet eine ausführliche fotografische Dokumentation des Ist-Zustands der Gebäude im Gebrauch sowie die vollständigen und aufgearbeiteten Original-pläne. Ergänzt werden diese durch Dokumente wie Verkaufsbroschüren, Baustellenfotos und Luftbilder. Aufsätze und Gespräche mit Inken und Hinrich Baller sowie mit Bewohnerinnen und Bewohnern der Häuser runden die inhaltliche Reflexion ab.
