The authors offer a novel approach to the mind-body problem and examine and discuss a number of currently popular views in the field. It is argued that the semantic features of psychological states are essential to them but are, at least at present, not specifiable in physical terms. On the other hand, the content of mental states considered relevant by psychology may diverge from the content of intro-spectively accessible mental phenomena. This means that folk psychology may not be reducible to empirical scientific psychology. Rather, the former may serve as a observation theory for the latter.
