Population density of an average of 1.5 persons per square kilometre makes economic growth, human development and environmental sustainability a challenge especially in rural areas. Geographic and social isolation affect rural communities both politically and economically. Isolation results in ?information hunger? in rural Mongolia and contributes to poverty growing after the country?s transition to market economy in 1990.
