'Engineering acoustics' is a teaching textbook that can serve as a tool for self-study and as a compendium for lectures as well. One of the author's goals is not only to describe how the topic develops but also why a specific way is chosen. The explanations do not restrict themselves to mathematical formulas. Only the illustrative explanation relying on the reader's imagination creates comprehension. This book represents the foundations of what nowadays seems necessary to make our environment quieter - in buildings as well as in the open air. Fundamental chapters on the physics and perception of sound precede those on noise reduction methods. A chapter dealing with microphines, loudspeakers, and acoustical antennae is included as well as a chapter on the fundamentals of signal and system theory. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Möser obtuvo el grado de Doctor en Ciencias de la Ingeniería en el año 1983, desarrollando su investigación sobre teoría del aislamiento acústico de paredes dobles. En 1988 se publicó su primer libro, "Analyse und Synthese akustischer Spektren". Desde 1994 es director del Instituto de Acústica (actualmente Institüt für Strömungsmechanik und Technische Akustik) de la Universidad Técnica de Berlin, continuando con la labor desarrollada anteriormente por los destacados L. Cremer y M. Heckl. La gran experiencia académica y científica acumulada por el Dr. Möser, así como sus artículos y libros en varios idiomas, lo han llevado a ser reconocido internacionalmente como un destacado experto en el área de la ingeniería acústica. Dr.-Ing. José Luis Barros se ha desempeñado desde 1989 como académico del Instituto de Acústica de la Universidad Austral de Chile. Entre los años 1996 y 2000, desarrolla su tesis doctoral en el Institut für Technische Akustik de la Universidad Técnica de Berlin, Alemania. En julio del 2000 recibe el grado de Doctor en Ciencias de la Ingeniería de la universidad alemana, tras lo cual regresa a Chile para continuar desarrollando docencia e investigación en al Universidad Austral. Desde el año 2007 se desempeña como Director del Instituto de Acústica de dicha Universidad. Sus líneas de investigación se relacionan con el Control de Ruido, Acústica Arquitectónica, Análisis de Señales de Acústicas y Modelación Matemática de Fenómenos Acústicos.
