Effective supply chain management (SCM) practices has become a potentially valuable way for improving organizational performance since competition is no longer between organizations, but among supply chains. This research conceptualizes and empirically tests the SCM practices. Primary data for the study were collected from 255 executives of manufacturing firms using structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using simple mean, chi-square test, independent sample T-test, Analysis of Variance, factor analysis, cluster analysis, discriminate analysis, correspondence analysis, canonical correlation and Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). This study has endeavored to analyze the differences existing among the manufacturing firms with respect to supply chain management practices in an Indian context. Understanding the features of manufacturing firms with respect to their supply chain management practices will be of immense utility to the policy-makers and practitioners to take strategic, tactical and operational decisions regarding their organizations. The research framework and data analysis done in this research work is expected to be helpful for researchers and academician

Dr.C.Ganeshkumar is a Post-doctoral fellow in EADS-SMI endowed chair for sourcing and supply management of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He received his PhD degree from Pondicherry University in Management Studies. He has published 15 research articles. His research interests include supply chain management and business analytics.
