Presently, the Indian retail trade is unorganized which accounts for 98 per cent in the total trade. The total number of retail outlets in India is around 12 million. Most of these retail stores are small in nature and are located in almost all areas. India is ranked second in the global retail development index of 30 developing countries. India has become a potential market for the global retail players, who are facing the problem of saturation in the developed markets. India’s vast middle class population and untapped market are the two main reasons for attracting the retail players in the Indian market.
