The opening up of the sector to the private players witnessed the introduction of a number of new products deserving the attention of the customers. Privatization aims at providing benefits of the growth of the industry to the society by providing better customer service and variety of quality products at reasonable prices. The entry of so many companies in this sector was likely to affect the performance of the public sector companies. The study is an endeavor to evaluate the performance of public sector during pre and post reform era.

The author has completed her M.com and Phd from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Currently she is working as a Assistant Professor in Commerce in SGTB Khalsa College, Sri Anandpur Sahib. Her areas of interest are Accounting, Insurance and Indian Taxation System.
