THE AETHER-COMPASS A Steampunk Adventure Greenland, 1885. Deep within the eternal ice, Professor Gregory Mirell makes a discovery that changes everything. It is a fist-sized fragment of jet-black, alien metal heavier than any earthly matter has any right to be, and possessed of powers that defy all reason. Yet when Mirell sets out across the ice once more, months later, every trace of him is lost. Baron Frederick Hemsley will not abandon his old friend. At his side stand the young mechanic Clara Wren and the hard-bitten Scotland Yard inspector Jonathan Crowe. Together they set out on a rescue expedition to the very edge of the known world borne by the majestic airship Boreas and a armoured amphibious craft that ploughs through ice and black depths alike. But they are not the only ones reaching for the secret buried in the ice. The ruthless industrialist Lord Blackwood is close on their heels, and his ambition knows no bounds. What waits for them in the Greenland wastes is older than mankind itself. A power not of this world. A power that threatens to tear asunder the very bounds of space and time. Amid prehistoric monsters, deadly machines, and a cold that bites to the bone, the search for a vanished friend becomes a race for the fate of the world. An atmospheric adventure rich with Victorian ingenuity and cosmic mystery the opening volume of The Aether-Compass Chronicles.

About the Author Chris Engels was born in Merzig, Germany, and works as a composer, musician, author, and 3D artist. His creative work unites music, text, and visual design into atmospheric, self-contained projects. Under various project names, he has released numerous internationally acclaimed albums in the field of progressive rock, in which he interweaves music with poetry, fantasy narratives, and socially critical themes. His first novel, the mystery-thriller VEXLEY, was conceived as the companion book to the album of the same name, bringing sound and story together into a work in its own right. With The Aether-Compass, he now presents his second novel the opening volume of The Aether-Compass Chronicles.
