Inhaltsangabe
Die Sammlungen ethnografischer Museen enthalten massenhaft Stücke, die Zeugnisse für Praktiken des Teilens und Verbindens sind, so auch die des Museums der Kulturen Basel. Es handelt sich um Fragmente der Geschichte, Überreste von Zerstörung, einst wirkmächtige, aus Einzelteilen zusammengesetzte Objekte. Die Publikation wirft ein Schlaglicht darauf, wie mit diesen Dingen umgegangen wurde und wird. Sie beleuchtet, was zerteilen, reparieren, zusammenfügen oder auch zerfallenlassen bedeutet. Immer geht es darum, eine Ordnung (wieder)herzustellen oder neu zu generieren. Anstatt Fragmente ausschließlich als Zeichen von Verlust oder als Zeugen eines unerbittlichen zeitlichen Verlaufs zu begreifen, stellen die Autor*innen die Kraft des Verbindens, die Kunst des Trennens und die Wucht des Zerstörens bei den präsentierten Stücken ins Zentrum.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Das MUSEUM DER KULTUREN BASEL (MKB) ist das größte ethnologische Museum der Schweiz. Zugleich ist es eines der bedeutendsten seiner Art in Europa. Seine Sammlung genießt Weltruf und umfasst mehr als 340 000 Objekte, rund 50 000 historische und etwa 200 000 dokumentarische Fotografien.
