This book explores the potential role of socio-economic factors in creating the technology disparity between developed countries such as Australia, Britain and USA, and developing countries in Africa such as Ghana and Nigeria. Possibilities of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in a way that will benefit society at large and vulnerable groups in particular are discussed within the wider framework of the variables which are socio-economic related. A very little academic literature exists on this new and promising field. By outlining some of the issues to be considered and analyzing these in wider social, economic, political and technical context, this book contributes to the dialogue among all involved parties ranging from Internet users to decision makers in both public and private sectors as well as households on the issue of social responsibility in the development, application and usage of the Technology in the developing countries as compared with developed countries.
