Jacob Lawrence. Lines of Influence erscheint in Zusammenarbeit mit dem SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah und untersucht Leben, Arbeit und Vermächtnis von Lawrence – nicht nur als gefeierter Künstler, sondern auch als Erzähler und Chronist der Lebenssituation der Afroamerikaner Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Der erste Teil des englischsprachigen Buchs zeichnet die Beziehungen zwischen Lawrence und seinen Zeitgenossen nach – seinen Mentoren und Künstlerfiguren wie Josef Albers, Richmond Barthé, Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence, José Clemente Orozco, Augusta Savage oder George Grosz. Den Blick auf die Gegenwart richtet der zweite Teil und erkundet dabei Lawrences Einfluss auf zeitgenössische Künstler und solche, die seine formalen und konzeptuellen Interessen teilen.
