Die in Paris und Genf lebende Künstlerin Isabelle Cornaro, geboren 1974, ausgebildete Kunsthistorikerin mit ausgeprägtem Interesse für experimentelles Kino, widmet sich dem narrativen, symbolischen oder wirtschaftlichen Ursprung von Dingen. Mit einem gleichsam anthropologischen Fokus greift sie in ihren Werken die wie eine Fixierung anmutende Bindung der Menschen an oft emotional aufgeladene, ja fetischisierte Objekte auf und bearbeitet das Thema in grossen Theaterinstallationen oder kurzen Filmen.
On Words ist eine Sammlung von Interviews mit führenden Künstlerinnen der zeitgenössischen Kunstszene. Im Gespräch mit Julie Enckell Julliard, Federica Martini und Sarah Burkhalter geben sie Auskunft zu den Quellen, aus denen sie schöpfen, zu ihren Themen und ihrer Sicht auf die Welt. Die Summe der Standpunkte, die in den Bänden der Reihe zusammengeführt werden, fügt der polyfonen Kunstgeschichte ein weiteres Narrativ hinzu – erzählt von denen, die sie aktiv mitgestalten.

Über die Autorinnen und Autoren
Julie Enckell Julliard is an art historian and a director at HEAD―Genève, where she heads the Cultural Development Department.
Federica Martini is an art historian and curator and heads the Visual Arts course at EDHEA in Sierre, Switzerland.
Sarah Burkhalter is an art historian and head of the Antenne romande of the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) in Lausanne and a member of SIK-ISEA’s board.
Julie Enckell Julliard ist Kunsthistorikerin und Direktionsmitglied der HEAD – Genève, wo sie die Abteilung Kulturelle Entwicklung leitet.

Off Words is a new series of books featuring interviews with women artists from around the world. Editors Julie Enckell Juliard and Federica Martini offer these artists a format to speak about the sources and visions for their work, discuss the topics they engage with, and to elaborate on their view of the world in which they live and work. Over time, the series will offer a new, polyphonic narrative of art history, told by distinguished artists who actively shape this history through their work, thoughts, and teaching. Isabelle Cornaro, born 1974 and based in Paris and Geneva, investigates the narrative, symbolic, and economic origin of objects. With such a quasi-anthropological focus her works explore our seemingly unshakeable attachment to these often emotionally charged or even fetishised things. Her large-scale scenic installations and short films leave room for interpretation and highlight the significance of the "cultural baggage" that affects our perception.
