Mitch Epstein, 1952 in Holyoke, Massachusetts geboren, gilt er als einer der besten Farbfotografen der Vereinigten Staaten. Seine Arbeiten zählen zum Bestand des Museum of Modern Art, des Metropolitan Museum und des Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Seine letzten Buchveröffentlichungen waren In Pursuit of India; Vietnam: A Book of Changes und The City. Epstein wurde vielfach ausgezeichnet, u.a. 2002 mit einem Guggenheim Fellowship für Family Business.
