Konrad Rufus Müller ist einer der renommiertesten Porträtfotografen der Nachkriegszeit. Sein Lebenswerk umfasst über 2.800 Bilder, eine Auswahl der besten 400 zeigt dieser Katalog. Sein Stil gilt als eigenwillig, er arbeitet ausschließlich in Schwarz-Weiß, immer ohne Kunstlicht, sein einziges Werkzeug ist eine Rolleiflex-Kamera von 1975. Ihn begleitet kein Stab von Assistenten und Stylisten, seine Papierabzüge entstehen in einer kleinen Dunkelkammer, jede Fotografie ist ein Unikat. In diesem Band sind die Höhepunkte seines Schaffens in lexikalischer Manier aneinandergereiht: neben allen deutschen Kanzlern bedeutende Staatsmänner und Politiker wie Joschka Fischer, Bruno Kreisky, Michail Gorbatschow, Bill Clinton, Wladimir Putin, François Mitterrand, Anwar el-Sadat; Künstler wie Sergiu Celibidache, Friedrich Dürrenmatt; Entertainer wie Thomas Gottschalk, Harald Schmidt. Aber auch Landschaftsporträts, Stadtansichten, Stillleben, Porträtserien von Kindern, jugendlichen Konzertbesuchern, das Porträt eines rumänischen 'Wolfsmenschen', Bauern, Handwerker, Großstadtmenschen gehören zu seinem Werk. Seine Arbeiten wurden in den renommiertesten Magazinen Europas veröffentlicht.
