Au vu de l'urbanisation en rapide progression dans le monde entier, les zones d'habitat informel, en particulier dans les villes du sud, doivent retenir toute notre attention, car à l'avenir, la majorité des nouveaux habitants s'installeront dans ces extensions non planifiées des centres urbains. Les outils et méthodes de la planification urbaine conventionnelle n'ont jusqu'à présent pas permis de lutter contre ce phénomène. De nouvelles approches, combinant une planification descendante et des initiatives ascendantes pour créer des environnements de vie durables et viables, sont nécessaires. Moravia Manifiesto présente des approches de planification alternatives proposées par un groupe de réflexion international, développé aux côtés de participants locaux de la colonie informelle de Moravia située au coeur de la métropole colombienne Medellín. Cette nouvelle approche de planification est contextualisée par des essais et des études de cas internationales. L'approche de planification du codage urbain montre de nouvelles manières par lesquelles la planification, la politique, l'économie et l'administration peuvent initier et mettre en oeuvre des processus de transformation urbaine innovants et inclusifs avec les communautés locales.
