Glücklicherweise freundet er sich schnell mit Carl an, dem Sohn der Nachbarn. Diese nehmen ihn zum angesagtesten Ort der Stadt mit, ins Civic Auditorium, um Wrestling-Kämpfe zu sehen. Mit seiner nigelnagelneuen Kodak Instamatic beginnt Darius zu fotografieren, hält die Helden des Rings vor, während und nach den Kämpfen fest. Mit einem bemerkenswerten Blick für Situationskomik und aus der Perspektive des 9-Jährigen entstehen hunderte von Bildern, deren fürs Buch getroffene Auswahl einen Einblick in eine längst vergangene Epoche gewährt, als das professionelle Wrestling gerade am Durchstarten war und im Fernsehen ausgestrahlt wurde. Im Sommer 2019 stösst Koehli anlässlich eines Besuches in Zürich auf das Album, das 50 Jahre zuvor entstanden war. Erinnerungen aus Omaha steigen wieder hoch, magische Namen tauchen aus der Vergangenheit auf. Sie erzählen von vollen Arenen und reisserischen Ansagern, vom begeisterten Publikum, das lautstark die Wrestler anfeuert, von Schweiss und Blut, von mysteriösen maskierten Komplizen, von gestählten Körpern und halten Momente von choreografierten, ja anmutigen Begegnungen fest.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Darius Koehli, geboren in Zürich, studierte Fotografie im Rochester Institute of Technology (Upstate New York) und an der Ecole Nationale de la Photographie in Arles. 1992 wurde er Mitbegründer und Leiter der Fotoagentur Vision Agency in Barcelona und arbeitete als Fotograf, Bildredaktor und Kurator von Ausstellungen. Seit 2005 widmet er sich ganz seinen künstlerischen Projekten. Koehli lebt und arbeitet seit 1987 in Barcelona.
