Rainer Fetting Los Angeles Surfscapes Rainer Fetting portrays the close contact of the surfer from Venice Beach, Los Angeles to the elemental power of the sea. His pictures show a dramatic and turbulent sea where the tiny surfer is tossed back and forth. In doing so, he revitalises and radicalises traditional seascapes showing people in the most intimated and direct confrontation with the power of nature. Rainer Fetting, however, also concentrates on the single, sovereign surfer who conquers the elements and turns the vehemence of the surf into an aesthetic event. The Berlin painter expresses this phenomenon by making an aesthetic event of the waves. He rhythmically places clear and simple brush strokes next to each other. This abstraction makes reference to the act of painting itself and makes a close comparison of the art of surfing with the art of painting. Just as the surfer uses the natural power of the waves and reacts to their dynamism, the painter reacts to the currents, eddies, and splashes of paint in the intense process of painting. biography 1949 born in Wilhelmshaven, Germany foundation of the Galerie am Moritzplatz together with Helmut Middendorf, Salomé, Bernd Zimmer, Anne Jud and Berthold Schepers lives and works in Berlin and New York

Zustand: Aceptable. Zustand: as new. Bielefeld : Kerber, 2004. Hardcover. 79 pp. chiefly color illustrations. 17 x 23 cm. Published in conjunction with an exhibition at Gallery Karl Pfefferle, Munich, Nov. 11, 2004-Jan. 15, 2005. - Surfers, and not the Internet kind, compose the majority of Rainer Fetting's latest group of paintings, set amid the sunny environs of Venice Beach, California (in contrast to his more typical urban subjects). Surfing as a subject of art has made a comeback worthy of Brian Wilson's Smile, as seen in Catherine Opie's photographs and Robert Longo's recent paintings, among others. Fetting's thick paint applied in simple adjacent lines flirts with abstraction but also conveys the power of waves, with matchstick-bodied surfers at nature's mercy. At other times, single firgures balancing on boards playfully allude to Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" and Dufy-esque views from a beachside hotel capture California colors in a testament to the painter's versatility. And what's more Californian than a sunset--over a car? Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9783936646993. Keywords : ART, Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 295071
