A Flipbook is a book that turns into a cinema for a short while, a series of pictures whose narrative unfolds as you look at it, an object that has to be touched in order to tell a story. \nThe 'Flipbook' casts light upon the historical processes and diverse media of image generation, closing the gap in scientific research between the early methods of moving pictures and contemporary art and in so doing, focuses upon the Flipbook as a little regarded and yet generally known and ubiquitous medium. In this way various representations of historic apparatuses, patents as well as historic books are documented, in particular the flipbooks of contemporary artists such as Pedro Almodovar, John Baldessari, Angela Bulloch, Tacita Dean, Gilbert & George, Jean-Luc Godard, Douglas Gordon, Keith Haring, William Kentridge, Jonathan Monk, Bruce Nauman, Tony Oursler, Andy Warhol and many more besides.
