Der Prix Pictet hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, mit ausdrucksstarker Fotokunst die Öffentlichkeit auf dringende Sozial- und Umweltprobleme des neuen Jahrtausends aufmerksam zu machen. Der Prix Pictet wurde 2008 von der Genfer Privatbank Pictet & Cie ins Leben gerufen und konnte sich rasch als einer der weltweit führenden Fotopreise etablieren. Der Prix Pictet besteht aus zwei Teilen: einem Preis in Höhe von CHF 100'000, den der Fotokünstler erhält, der in den Augen der unabhängigen Jury eine Reihe von Arbeiten geschaffen hat, welche am überzeugendsten auf das Thema des jeweiligen Preises eingehen; und einem Reportageauftrag, der von den Teilhabern von Pictet & Cie einem der vorgeschlagenen Künstler für eine Reise in eine Region erteilt wird, in der die Bank ein Nachhaltigkeitsprojekt unterstützt.
