BETRACHTUNG DER NATUR IN EINER MOBILITÄTSREDUZIERTEN UMWELT „Der durch Lockdowns, Pandemie und Einschränkungen geprägte Jahresverlauf 2020 hebt den Bezug meiner Bilder zum Realismus von Gustave Courbet hervor“, sagt Alexander Ruthner (geb. 1982 in Wien, lebt und arbeitet in Wien und Los Angeles) über seine aktuellen Arbeiten: Ölgemälde mit üppiger grüner Vegetation und veritable Daunendecken, komplett mit satten Farbverläufen bemalt. Gezeigt werden sie mit dem Erscheinen der Publikation im Sommer 2021. Daher ist „Sommer“ ein Teil des Titels. Der andere Teil „Cour“ bezieht sich auf die erste Silbe des Namens des französischen Malers und bedeutet auf Deutsch soviel wie „Hof“. Der Begriff wird vom Künstler aber zum Synonym für „Gedankenschloss“ umgedeutet, in dem sich jeder Mensch unter den Bedingungen der Pandemie eingerichtet hat. Ruthner, der bei Peter Kogler, Daniel Richter und Albert Oehlen studierte, nutzt für seine neuen Werke den Charme der Wald- und Wiesenmalerei vergangener Epochen und führt ihn eigenwillig in die Gegenwart. Die Arbeiten von Alexander Ruthner wurden unter anderem in der Kunsthalle Wien, in der Whitechapel Gallery in London und im Nationalmuseum von Montenegro ausgestellt.

Vienna, 1982; lives and works in Vienna) says about his most recent works: oil paintings featuring lush green vegetation and veritable down comforters painted all-over in saturated color gradients. The works will make their public debut as the publication is released in the summer of 2021, hence the word "Summer" in the title. The other word, "Cour," is a nod to the first syllable of the French painter's name as well as French for "court," a term the artist creatively reinterprets as a synonym for the solitary "castle of the mind" to which we have retreated under pandemic conditions. Ruthner, who studied with Peter Kogler, Daniel Richter, and Albert Oehlen, revisits the boscage and pasture painting of past eras in new works that propose a distinctive personal interpretation of that tradition's charm. Alexander Ruthner's work has been shown at Kunsthalle Wien, the Whitechapel Gallery, London, and the National Museum of Montenegro, a.o.
