This book is an outcome of extensive research on voting behavior in a developing society like India. The project was conducted in the State of Orissa for the purpose of exploring the trends, patterns and dynamics of electoral politics at the regional level vis-à-vis the national mainstream. The main objective of the study was to identify the determinants of voting behavior by using a social survey conducted during the 13th General Elections in an Assembly segment of a parliamentary constituency. Nonetheless, it suggests for creating political awareness amongst the voters on the one hand and the change in attitude of political leaders on the other, apart from electoral reforms for strengthening the democratic system. Moreover, the findings of the study would provide an impetus for theory building. The students and researchers particularly in the field of political science, political sociology and social psychology would be benefited from this book.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Dr. Simanchala Das (b.1971) is a dual doctorate in social science and management from Berhampur University, India. He has an experience of 17 years of post graduate teaching and 3 years in research. Presently, he is working as Associate Professor, Dept. of Management, KLEF, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA and is engaged in teaching, research and consultancy.
