This book briefs about the Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is the most comprehensive multivariable flexible AC transmission system and FACTS controller enhances real and reactive power control for the effective real-time functioning of the power system without power losses. UPFC enables independent and simultaneous control of a transmission line voltage, impedance, and phase angle. In steady state, the UPFC can be used to regulate the power flow through the line and improve utilization of the existing transmission system capacity and during power system transients, the UPFC can be used to mitigate power system oscillations.

Prof. Dr. V. Gomathy is an Associate Professor in Dept of EEE at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India. She has authored more than 30 scientific publications and editor for various reputed journals. Her research interests are Power Quality Management, Soft Computing and Intelligent Controllers.
