Solar thermal based applications like flat plate collectors, concentrating collectors, solar stoves etc. are easy to use and much economical. End use of solar energy includes space heating, drying, cooling, electricity generation, food cooking etc. Solar air heater is easy in design, wherein, the incident solar energy is transformed into thermal energy and is further used to heat ambient air. Flat plate SAH are low-temperature application systems and have poor thermal efficiency due to generation of boundary layer over the heated surface. Use of artificial roughness is a technique to enhance the thermal performance of simple SAH as it disturbs the laminar sub-layer and enhances local turbulence near the absorber surface.
