This study was conducted in Department of Pharmacology in association with Department of General Surgery in Mahatma Gandhi hospital, Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, over a period of one year. This study was prospective, cross-sectional, observational type including all post-operative patients till discharged, in the Department of General Surgery. A total of three hundred patients of either sex and adult age groups who fulfilled inclusion criteria were included in this study. Patients who absconded/discharged against medical advice and patients referred to higher centre were excluded. Pregnant /lactating mothers, all pediatric patients and any patient who dies post-operatively before being discharged were also excluded from this study. Data like name, age, sex, diagnosis, ongoing treatment were recorded from patient’s case file in a previously prepared Case Record Form (CRF). The relevant details of drug prescribed were analyzed by WHO prescribing indicators.
