Inhaltsangabe

Africa's vulnerability to climate change is acknowledged in the IPCC reports with agriculture and food security particular areas of concern. Warming temperatures are expected to cause frequent extreme weather events affecting agriculture the main source of livelihood for smallholder farmers. This study dealt with the identification of vulnerability to climate change on majorly agriculture and food security and also farmers’ adaptive capacity. This study had the objectives of determining vulnerability to climate change of the farming households and determining the existing climate change adaptation practices of farming households. The results of the study indicated that a relatively large proportion of people are aware that the climate is changing and climate change awareness seems to have grown steadily starting from 2010. The farmers have a wide range of adaptive and coping strategies like planting trees, water management, diversification of feeds, mulching, though most of these coping strategies seem too basic and are not very useful in the long term. The study concluded that the community like many African farming communities is vulnerable to climate change and variability.
