Reducing weight while increasing or maintaining the strength of products is a challenging task in the automobile industry. Reduction in weight increases the overall fuel efficiency proportionately. The leaf spring considered as one of the main components of the suspension systems in the heavy vehicles are prone to fatigue. The replacement of composite materials for conventional ones has made it possible to reduce the weight of the vehicle, without reduction in load carrying capacity. The part of research work focusses on the design and analysis of composite leaf spring replaced with that of conventional steel leaf spring. The objective of this study is to perform Theoretical calculation and numerical analysis for the static strength of simple leaf springs designed for small vehicles. The objective is to compare the stresses and percentage weight saving of composite leaf spring with that of conventional leaf spring. To achieve this objective, stress and displacements under static loading were analytically calculated. A computer-aided design model of a leaf spring was created.
