As a result, this book investigated waste on site and found that the main wastes were defective products (expired products), unnecessary handling and unnecessary processing. In view of this, the aim was to improve the company's logistics system by modelling and simulating a proposed flow rack stock structure, which achieved a significant reduction in the area used of approximately 35% and consequently reduced the aforementioned waste. In this way, it can be concluded that the application of stock management techniques and layout changes to reduce waste is indeed beneficial for organisations and that this was proven in the case study using a medicines distributor.
