Line x tester analysis using a set of three females (Lines) and ten males (testers) having diverse genetic backgrounds was carried out to estimate the extent of the genetic architecture of rice under aerobic condition. Experimental material comprising thirteen parents and their thirty hybrids were planted in a Randomized Block Design with three replications during kharif 2014 at the Main Rice Research Centre, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari. On the basis of per se performance, heterotic response, combining ability estimates and nature of gene action for grain yield per plant and its attributing traits, parents NAUR-1, AICRIP-1335, GNR-3, NDR 1132-5, CR 2883- 22-4-1, R 1458-231-1-275-1 and RCPR 6 and crosses NAUR-1 × NDR 1132-5, AICRIP-1335 × RCPR 7, NAUR-1 × RCPR 7, AICRIP-1335 × R 1458-231-1-275-1, GNR-3 × RCPR 6 and AICRIP-1335 × RCPR 8 were found most promising and could be exploited commercially after critical evaluation for its superiority and stability across the locations over years.
