Additionally, endophytes—microorganisms residing within plant tissues—can boost resistance by triggering defense responses, such as the production of phytoalexins and defensive hormones like jasmonic acid. These microbial allies can also attract natural predators of the fall armyworm, aiding in pest control. Nikhil Reddy K S, a PhD candidate in Entomology at KSNUAHS, Shivamogga, Karnataka, focuses on pest management. His research on maize fall armyworm earned him first place at HITASA-2024. Awarded the UAS Campus Gold Medal, he now works on RNAi for controlling brinjal shoot and fruit borer.
