Angelman syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by severe mental retardation, speech impairment, ataxic gait, seizures, and a distinctively happy personality. First described by Harry Angelman in 1965, the condition has been reported worldwide, but until now, not from Iraq. This book presents the first documented Iraqi case of Angelman syndrome, emphasizing its clinical, radiological, and therapeutic aspects. This case described in this book reinforces the diagnostic value of combining detailed clinical observation with neuroimaging in recognizing Angelman syndrome. It also highlights the potential role of lamotrigine and neurotrophic agents in improving seizure control and cognitive function. Importantly, this report marks the first identification of Angelman syndrome in Iraq, underscoring the growing need for genetic and neurodevelopmental diagnostic services in the region.
