The genetic architecture of yield traits is complex, but it can be effectively optimized and understood through several strategic frameworks. Improving yield in rice breeding requires navigating the biological trade-offs among quantitative yield components while balancing climate resilience and sustainable agricultural practices. Breeders address these challenges by applying targeted genetic and breeding interventions. In this book, we present a novel approach to understanding the genetic architecture of yield traits through visual maps that depict the genomic constitution of a trait. Graphical genotyping enables researchers to visualize recombination events, identify chromosomal segments inherited from the donor parent, and determine which genomic regions have been successfully recovered from the recurrent parent. This approach is particularly valuable during the later stages of the breeding process, where it helps verify the genomic stability of candidate lines before their official release as new rice varieties.
