Inhaltsangabe

Admittedly, safety is the greatest concern when it comes to working in underground mines. Nowadays, a great deal of high-tech equipment is used there. In a well-equipped mine, several types of computer networks are deployed for safety and monitoring purposes. Among these networks are wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In fact, this type of application-oriented network offers several advantages over conventional networks, namely its wireless nature, low cost, fault tolerance and ease of deployment in high-risk areas. On the other hand, they impose limitations in terms of energy consumption and data management. In this context, the IEEE 802.15.4 standard has emerged as the de facto standard for WSNs. Its success is reflected in the extension of this standard to include more than ten different physical layers. The aim of this book is to examine the performance of the 802.15.4 standard in comparison with the 'g' extension. This book is aimed at both researchers and the general public interested in exploring the challenges involved in using RCSFs for industrial applications.
