This study analyzes land-use dynamics in the Mesra area (northwestern Algeria) between 2019 and 2025 using satellite imagery and the SCP plugin in QGIS. The main objective is to quantify changes in land cover. Sentinel-2 satellite images, processed using supervised classification, are used to assess transitions between land cover classes. The results reveal that this area has experienced a marked decrease in agricultural and forested areas, as well as a significant decline in cultivated land, which has been replaced by a substantial increase in natural vegetation. Furthermore, the study highlights the rapid urbanization of agricultural land converted into built-up areas, driven by population growth. Remote sensing thus emerges as a powerful tool for mapping land-use changes in semi-arid areas, contributing to decision-making for the sustainable management of natural resources. This approach offers promising prospects for reducing the loss of agricultural land and strengthening the agroecological resilience of production systems.
