Die Trostfrauen is written by a German student Lisa who studies in Nanjing. She hears about a history of ""trostfrauen"" for the first time in Nanjing, and decides to make a research about it. During writing her thesis, Lisa meets some relevant personage, among them there is a girl Su Heping, who has been living with a former ""trostfrauen"" Lin Meian, depending on each other. Knowing Lisa's plan, Heping invites her and introduces her to her foster mother. Persuaded by Heping and Lisa, Meian agrees to go to Japan, as a representative of the Chinese women who had been imposed by Japanese to be ""trostfrauen"", to institute a civil lawsuit against the Japanese government. During the trial, Meian recalls her childhood and her painful experience of being cheated to be a trostfrauen at age 13...
