William Somerset Maugham's habit of recording various kinds of writing materials, which lasts for over 50 years, can be dated backed to as far as 1892 when he was 18 years old. In 1949, the then 75 years old Maugham published Author's Notes, which was derived from 15 notes, memos, travel notes he collected and added with simple comment.
