P.O. Bodding (1868-1936) was the most outstanding of the missionary scholars who came to India in January 1890 from Norway and worked among the Santals and studied their language and culture. He spent his twenty years to complete this masterpiece. Author's another prestigious work are Santal Folk Tales in 3 volumes and Traditions and Institutions of the Santals.,
