In 1874, he was awarded the prestigious Gilchrist scholarship, enabling him to pursue further studies in London. He completed his graduation in 1877 and subsequently enrolled at the Royal School of Mines in London, where he excelled in the study of biology and paleontology. It was during his time at Cambridge that he formed a friendship with Rabindranath Tagore. On May 13, 1880, Pramatha Nath Bose joined the Geological Survey of India, where he embarked on his career in geological research. Initially, he conducted field surveys as part of his work with the Geological Survey. Taking a two-year furlough from his duties, he utilized this time to publish his notable work titled "A History of Hindu Civilization Under British Rule."
