Children are the nation's supremely important assets stated the national policy for children (1974). The Five Year Plans and other child welfare programs are in consonance with the government's efforts at improving the condition of this most important asset and resource of the country i.e. the children. The UN convention on the rights of children has also tried to reinforce this dictum. The efforts on part of the government and NGOs working with children have tried to improve the health nutritional and educational status of children. Improvements have definitely been made but the huge expanse of children by its sheer number defies to be covered by different programs consequently we are left with a high school dropout rate disabilities nutritional deficiencies gender discrimination and child labour couple with child abuse. The present work is an attempt to bring to the fore the kind of problems being faced by the children of this country and what the policy makers care givers and parents can do to improve the situation of children An emphasis has been place to focus on the positive aspects of child development. Keeping the ground realities in mind the presented papers try to explore various means and measures to enhance the child's abilities and potential. An emphasis has been placed at improving the care giver's abilities so as the child benefits the most in terms of better social and emotional adjustments without overburdening the existing infrastructure. 112 pp. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 61379
