Children are the nation's supremely important assets stated the national policy for children (1974). The Five Year Plans and other child welfare programs are in consonance with the government's efforts at improving the condition of this most important asset and resource of the country i.e. the children. The UN convention on the rights of children has also tried to reinforce this dictum. The efforts on part of the government and NGOs working with children have tried to improve the health nutritional and educational status of children.
