El difícil arte del aforismo tiene en el catalán Joaquín Setantí (c. 1540-1617) a uno de sus primeros maestros. Centellas de varios conceptos reúne quinientos aforismos reveladores de una moderna actitud política y personal que parece anunciar la obra de Baltasar Gracián y son un hito imprescindible para entender la literatura sentenciosa del siglo XVII. Joaquín Setantí fue un personaje importante en la municipalidad de la Barcelona de comienzos del siglo XVII y se aparece al lector actual como un apasionado de la Historia y de la reflexión política, dentro del ámbito conocido como tacitismo. A estos asuntos dedicó varios opúsculos, entre los cuales destacan, por su originalidad y primacía en el tiempo, el ejemplar que presentamos.
