L'autore sviluppa questo tema discutendo l'attività e le opere di tre personaggi chiave Cardano, Castelli e Guglielmini - e proponendo il caso paradigmatico della scienza delle acque. La via delle acque mostra che l'appropriazione delle arti meccaniche contribuì a rendere inscindibile il nesso arte-matematica-natura e corroborò, in forme nuove, l'antica idea filosofica della naturalità delle matematiche.

The author explores this theme by discussing the work of three key figures Cardano, Castelli and Guglielmini and by examining the case of the science of water.
