The official catalog of the 15th Venice Biennale Architecture Exhibition. More and more people on the planet are looking for a decent place to live, even though the chances to find one are becoming tougher and tougher by the hour. Nevertheless, on the frontlines of the built environment there lingers a sense of vitality that brings architecture to look at reality in a positive way. This is what people will see at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition: success stories and exemplary cases where architecture has made, is making, and will make a difference. Reporting from the Front aims at explaining to a broader audience what it means to improve the quality of life while working on the margins, under heavy circumstances, and facing pressing challenges. And what it is like to be on the cutting edge trying to conquer new fields.

More and more people on the planet are looking for a decent place to live even though that is becoming harder and harder to achieve. In an increasingly complex world, attempts to create good architecture while overcoming material realities and difficult circumstances are always challenging. But many architects and communities the world over are rising to these challenges and are going beyond "business as usual".
The 15th International Architecture Exhibition will be all about these success stories and exemplary cases where architecture has made, is making, and will make a difference in the lives of everyday people by achieving what has previously seemed impossible.
Reporting from the Front aims to explain to a broad audience what it means to improve the quality of life while working on the margins of society, often under adverse conditions, while facing pressing challenges, all while producing significant work.
If we can learn from architectural practices that despite the scarcity of means intensify what is available instead of highlighting what is missing, we can understand what design tools are needed to overcome and subvert the forces that favor individual gain over collective benefit, that reduce We to just Me. We can come to an architecture that introduces a broader notion of gain: design as added value instead of an extra cost. Reporting from the Front will not be just a chronicle of passive witness but a testimony to work that balances hope and rigor in the quest for an architecture of the public good.

"The lady on the stairs, climbing on the highest steps can scrutinize a wider horizon and in so doing, conquer its "expanded eye", announces the Architecture Biennale in 2016 curated by Alejandro Aravena. "On a trip through South America - he tells Alejandro Aravena - Bruce Chatwin met an elderly lady crossing the desert carrying an aluminum ladder in the shoulder. It was the German archaeologist Maria Reiche who studied the Nazca lines. Seen standing on the ground, the stones were meaningless; . But from the top of the scale, the same stones formed a bird, a jaguar, ." Aravena thus hopes that the Biennale Architecture 2016 offers" a new point of view.Rather than an inward-looking interrogation of the profession's shortcomings, as Rem Koolhaas undertook in 2014, the Chilean Pritzker Prize-winner asks us to gaze in the opposite direction. to the vast swathes of the built horizon that traditionally lay beyond the profession's purview: urban slums, denatured megacities, conflict zones, environmentally compromised ports, rural villages far off the grid."We believe that the advancement of architecture is not a goal in itself but a way to improve people's quality of life," states Aravena.""Featuring work from 88 participants from 37 countries "Reporting from the Front" will share work from Architects tackling issues relating to segregation, inequality, suburbia, sanitation, natural disasters, the housing shortage, migration, crime, traffic, w.
