Victor Burgin, artista e raffinato teorico dell'immagine, ferma e in movimento, è nato a Sheffield, in Inghilterra, nel 1941. Si impone sulla scena dell'arte internazionale sul finire degli anni '60, come uno dei padri dell'Arte Concettuale, lavorando sia col mezzo fotografico sia con l'immagine in movimento dei suoi film. Questo volume è del tutto differente dalle precedenti pubblicazioni relative alla produzione di Burgin, in linea generale monografie di lavori visuali con testi di altri critici o raccolte dei suoi scritti teorici. Infatti, nonostante Burgin sia conosciuto non solo come artista ma anche come teorico, non è mai stato realizzato un libro in cui egli rivolga alla sua stessa produzione artistica un'attenzione critica.

Victor Burgin came to prominence in the late 1960s as one of the originators of conceptual art. His works are in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Tate Modern, London.

Over the past 30 years, Victor Burgin has become both a highly influential artist and a renowned theorist of the still and moving image. His writings on general issues such as photographic, psychoanalytic and cultural theory are noted for their lucidity, compactness and reason. In contrast, the photographs and videos that Burgin creates as an image-maker are richly paradoxical and constitute an inquiry into the structure of meaning in contemporary society. This book is different from Victor Burgin's previous publications, which are either monographs of his visual work - with essays by other writers - or collections of his theoretical essays.
