Inhaltsangabe

A clarion call from the heart of 16th-century Scotland, The Complaynt Of Scotlande is both a passionate defence of public welfare and a window into the turbulent politics of mid-16th century Britain. Written during a time of intense Scottish-English relations, this landmark tract stands as a rallying cry for national vigilance, urging the three estates to safeguard their country's future. It pulses with the intellectual energy of Renaissance political thought, echoing the urgency and insight of writers like Thomas More. This volume offers more than just a single voice: alongside James Harrison's influential essay, readers will discover a rare appendix of contemporary English pamphlets and Tudor propaganda, including declarations from Henry VIII and the Lord Protector Somerset. Together, these early modern essays and historical political tracts illuminate the fierce ideological battles that shaped a nation's destiny. For historians, researchers, and students of British history, it is an indispensable primary source - and for any lover of classic literature, a fascinating glimpse into the roots of modern political discourse. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
