Dr. B.R. Ambedkar served as the Minister of Law and Justice, and the Chairman of the Drafting Committee after India achieved its independence in 1947. Ambedkar drafted several provisions in which he found the issues of States and minorities very challenging process. The Indian states, before independence, were ruled by the princely leaders, who were mostly apprehensive of joining the Indian Union. Minorities had an uncertain future in India, and Ambedkar had the task to accommodate them along with other groups, such as Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (1891-1956) was a constitutionalist, econo­mist, political activist, and jurist, who headed the committee drafting the constitution of The Republic of India. Born in the family of Mahars, an untouchable caste, he completed his higher education at the University of Mumbai, London School of Economics, and earned his doctorate from Columbia University. He is also known for the Dalit rights move­ment and the establishment of the Neo-Buddhism movement, which is a socio-political movement among the Dalits.
