Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

George Robert Gleig was a Scottish writer, soldier and priest who became known for his contributions to military literature and his service in both religious and educational roles. Born in Stirling in 1796, he joined the army as a young man, giving up academic opportunities to serve in the Peninsular War and later in campaigns against the United States. His firsthand experiences in these conflicts shaped much of his writing, including accounts that provided insight into military life and leadership. After his military service, he completed his education and entered holy orders, serving in various parishes while continuing to write. His work often explored historical military events and figures, reflecting his interest in leadership, duty and the challenges of war. Gleig became Chaplain-General of the Forces and Inspector-General of Military Schools, promoting education within the military. Throughout his life, he contributed to periodicals and published books that combined personal experience with historical analysis. He died in 1888, leaving a lasting mark on military and literary circles.
