Comparative Study of the Religions and Culture under is the fruit of many years of patient and painstaking work. The author has tried to bring out the unity in all religions. The encyclopaedia is a valuable contribution to the literature of comparative religion and represents a noteworthy attempt at a study of all religions in a sympathetic spirit. In our discussion on the relatedness of culture to religion, we should state it clearly that the approach in this conversation is not emphasising cultural materialism, although it must be recognised that cultural materialism might at some stage in the discussion play a role. My focus is much more concerned with an understanding of culture in terms of sociocultural systems. The Indian cultural tradition is unique. The notions of dharma (normative order), karma (personal moral commitment] and jati (caste) as the hierarchical principles of social stratification are basic to Indian culture. Although many scholars have worked on the history of oriental religion-philosophical tradition, but no such complete and comprehensive work on this subject is available to us. Keeping this in mind, were are planning to publish this book Philosophy and Religion. The concentration will be on Hinduism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, Buddhism, Islam, and Sikhism and on other minor oriental religion and philosophy. In India, philosophy and religion are linked intimately, inseparably. The entire mass of information and knowledge has been painstakingly researched, written and edited with the anthropological point of view, that makes this encyclopaedia all the more valuable for purpose of scholars in different disciplines, social scientists, teachers and students.
