Discrete mathematics is the part of mathematics that is devoted to the study of discrete objects. Discrete mathematics provides the mathematical foundations for many computer science courses, including data structures, algorithms, database theory, automata theory, computer security, and operating systems. This book explains the basic principles of Discrete Mathematics and structures in five sections, set theory, relations and functions, probability and counting techniques; recurrence relations, propositional logic; lattices and Boolean Algebra; study of graphs and trees and algebraic structures and finite state machines.
In this Second Edition, new and revised material is added related to number theory including the well-ordering principle. Principles of mathematical induction, division algorithm and the Euclidean algorithm are also provided with suitable examples and exercises.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Dr. Harish Mittal is Principal and Head, Department of CSE, at the BM Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sonepat (affiliated to IP University, Delhi). He has more than twnety years of expertise in teaching, Administration, and Research & Development. He obtained his PhD from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. He has around 60 research papers including WoS and Scopus Indexed publications. His areas of interest include discrete mathematics, software engineering, cloud computing, and machine learning.
Dr. Vinay Kumar Goyal is Vertical Head- IT at iNurture Education Solutions Private Limited. He has handled work related to academics and curriculum development. He has published numerous patents, books, and research papers in publications of repute. He has been associated with educational and management activities at the level of engineering colleges and university. His areas of interest include cloud computing, information security, IoT and machine learning and mathematics.
Dr. Deepak Kumar Goyal is Principal, Vaish College of Engineering, Rohtak, (affiliated to MD University, Rohtak). He has more than twenty years of expertise in teaching, administration and research. He obtained his PhD from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. He has published numerous research papers in reputed publications. His areas of interest include wireless sensor networks and network security.
