Inhaltsangabe

Contains Max Carrados and The Eyes of Max Carrados
"I sensed that damning fact as soon as I had them in my hands..."
Introducing Max Carrados – the blind detective who relies on his profound sense of hearing, smell and touch, and of course thought to 'see' what others miss.
This volume is the first of two boasting of all the Carrados stories – from the very first tale 'The Coin of Dionysius' that introduces Carrados and Carlyle to a whole host of stories that show Carrados solving mysteries involving rare coins, murder plots, spooky houses, missing people, robbery and of course murder most foul.
"...these are the only detective stories since Poe that are worth re-reading" – George Orwell

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Ernest Bramah Smith was born in Manchester, England in 1868. At 16, he dropped out of Manchester Grammar School, with a poor academic record and went into farming, first as a farm pupil and then in his own right. It was while farming that Bramah began to contribute local vignettes to the Birmingham News. He eventually obtained a position as secretary to Jerome K. Jerome and rose to become editor of one of Jerome's magazines. Bramah attained success with his creation of Kai Lung, a wandering Chinese storyteller. In 1914, Bramah created Max Carrados, a blind detective (arguably amongst the first if not actually the first), and wrote many stories that established him as a staple in detective fiction.
